Maarten Derksen (DOEN Foundation), Emira Woods (Shine Campaign) and Jolanda van Ginkel (IKEA Foundation) take part in a fireside chat about the role of philanthropies in last mile energy access

Following the GOGLA Annual General Meeting, the Shine Campaign continued its week-long trip to Amsterdam by participating in Sustainable Energy for All’s (SEforALL) Charrettes. Shine partner SEforALL brought together nearly 200 participants to address specific challenges and identify solutions to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) at the intensive two-day sessions.

At its current pace the global community is not on track to achieve SDG7, which calls for affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030. At the Charrettes, small groups of energy access stakeholders examined the slow progress on SDG7, specifically looking at the data and evidence needed to improve decision-making and how to accelerate financial flows within and to countries where the biggest energy access gaps exist.

Shine’s Senior Programs Advisor Emira Woods participated in a panel on the role of philanthropies, hosted by campaign partner the DOEN Foundation. The discussion highlighted the deepening commitment of another Shine partner, the IKEA Foundation, who, in partnership with SEforALL, announced a new collaboration to close global energy access gaps. This partnership builds upon both organizations’ work to faster progress towards meeting SDG 7.
